URETER - Transitional cell carcinoma

Description
The proximal portion of the ureter is dilated, thinwalled, and shows several small areas in the lower portion of mucosal haemorrhage. The ureter is blocked by a solid tumour some 2.5 cm long; it is difficult to see whether or not the wall is infiltrated but it probably is in view of the fact that there is an indentation in the wall together with some thickening, near the mid point of the tumour. The distal portion of the ureter shows some thickening of the wall and a reduction in the size of the lumen. The histology of the lesion is that of a Grade III transitional cell carcinoma.
History
Not know, but is very likely that the patient presented with haematuria.
